Inauguration of New Computer Wing

Inauguration of New Computer Wing by His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Leo Cornelio, Archbishop of Bhopal

BSSS has been taking path-breaking initiatives to better its infrastructure and facilities.  In continuum to that the college has created a state-of-the art Computer Wing.  Now the college has three separate well equipped computer labs, named as "Cyber Dome", "PC Paradise" and "Digital Dimensions" mainly for BCA, B. Com. and Multi Media respectively.  It also includes ICT control room, a staff room for the Department of Computer Applications and open area in the ground floor for BSSSites to fraternize together in their leisure moments.
Archbishop of Bhopal His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Leo Corneleo inaugurated the new Computer Wing by unveiling the plaque and bestowed blessings at a function organised on 19th August, 2016. Principal  Dr Fr John P J, Vice Principal Dr Sr Lissy Jose and well wishers were present on the occasion. Archbishop also felicitated the entire team who have been instrumental in the construction of the new Computer Wing.



Oratoria 16

The Cyber Club of Department of Computer Applications, under the banner of The Bhopal School of Social Sciences, inaugurated the CYBER CLUB activities by conducting a debate competition titled 'ORATORIA-16' on 27th August 2016. The topic chosen was 'MOBILE APPS: FOE OR FRIEND'.
The program was inaugurated by the college Vice Principal, Dr Sr Lissy Jose. The occasion was also graced by other staff dignitaries and jury members. The Cyber Club in-charge, Ms Prabha Biju highlighted the objective of the CYBER CLUB during her welcome address and also elaborated the activities that are organized under CYBER CLUB. The debate was conducted in two successive rounds where the orators were judged for their language, content delivered with relevance to the topic and confidence-level. The Semi-final rounds were conducted on 19th and 22nd August 2016 through which 10 finalists were selected. Later a 'Quiz Session' was also conducted for the audience where they were awarded for their participation. Sr. Maurice, the Coordinator of Management and Prof. T.M.Thomas motivated the participants by their gracious presence.
The following debaters were adjudged as First, Second and Popular Choice by the Jury members:
First: Ms. Deborah Sam of B A (Eng, Hons) I Sem
Second:  Ms. Sara Zameen Khan of B A (Eng, Hons) I Sem
Popular Choice: Ms. Baljeet Kaur of B Com (Eco.) V Sem
The program concluded with Vote of Thanks given by Ms Sangheeta Mishra. The Head of the Department, Ms Archana Naik thanked the participants and expressed her gratitude towards Dr Fr John P J, Principal of BSSS who is the guiding force behind all the activities conducted by the Cyber Club.


Guest lecture

Guest lecture by Dr P S Patheja

A guest lecture was arranged on 21st September, 2016 in the Department of Computer Applications for the students of BCA III Semester on the topic “Memory Management”. The guest speaker was Dr. P.S.Patheja, Associate Professor, Oriental Group. His session was very informative and interactive. He covered topics right from the importance of memory management in any operating system to in-depth topics like partitioning, paging and segmentation.



Industrial visit to CRISP

Industrial visit to CRISP

An industrial visit was carried out at Centre for Research and Industrial Staff Performance (CRISP) on 30th September, 2016 for the III semester students of Computer Applications stream. The main objective behind the visit was to make students aware about how various activities related to consultancy, vocational projects, software development, e-governance and managerial development programs are carried out in an institution. The students along with faculty members Ms Prabha Biju and Ms Jincy Renjy Thomas visited the CCNAlab where an orientation of the company was given by the Head of CCNA Department.

National Workshop on
'Data Warehousing and Data Mining'

The Department of Computer Applications organized a two day UGC sponsored National Workshop on 'Data Warehousing and Data Mining' on 6th and 7th January 2017. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. V. D. Garde, Retd. GM, BHEL in the presence of Rev. Dr. Fr. John P J, Principal BSSS, other dignitaries, staff and students. Dr. V.D. Garde and Rev. Dr. Fr. John P J released of Departmental e-Magazine 'IT-Matters'. The resource persons of the workshop were Dr. Durgesh Kumar Mishra, Professor and Head, Department of CSE,Sri Aurobindo Institute of Technology, Indore, Dr.Sushil Kulkarni, Associate Professor, Jai Hind College, Mumbai and Dr. Deepak Singh Tomar, Associate Professor, MANIT. The workshop was attended by a large number of delegates from Bhopal, Indore, Bairagarh, Satna and Vellore. In all 33 participants attended the workshop from eminent educational institutions such as Amity, SRM,VIT (Vellore), St. Paul's Institute of Professional Studies (Indore), Rajiv Gandhi Mahavidyalaya (Satna), Barkatullah University (Bhopal), Sri Satya Sai College (Bhopal), Sant Hirdaram Girls'College (Bairagarh), AISECT, Atal Bihari Vajpai Hindi University, Nutan College (Bhopal), IEHE, Sagar Institute of Research and Technology (Bhopal) and  NLIU (Bhopal). The workshop also had an in-house registration of 55 participants of BSSS. The workshop also provided a relevant platform for interaction among the academia.
